Waiting for Sponsor
She Died Waiting for a Sponsor
The first week of my new job in the stack on my desk of children needing sponsors, was the picture and information of Maurine Chesoktoi of Kenya. She had her picture taken. She filled out information about her desperate situation. And she waited for sponsorship.
But when I started doing further research on Maurine in order to get her a sponsor, I found out that she had just died. Why did she die? A lack of food. Yes, it was malnutrition. She died waiting for sponsorship.
Maurine wasn't the only one waiting. We have stacks of children waiting. I realized that I have an important job. I don't ever want to have to share stories like this again. But it is inevitable without people like you who help to save lives . . .
Thank you for helping to save children . . .
During the recession, we lost some sponsors and didn't get as many new ones. So we have a lot more children waiting. Perhaps you might be able to sponsor another child. Or you may know someone who would be interested. Would you help pass the word that we need sponsors? We would be glad to send you information to share with others.
I'm not going to forget Maurine. A lot of work is going to be done in her memory. My hope is that because she died, it will motivate us to help someone else live.
Maurine, we honor your life and regret how you died. We will be different because of you.
I would like to thank all of you for praying for me and encouraging me in my new role at Christian Relief Fund. My new job will involve many things including helping with leadership in Amarillo, developing CRF works around the world, and speaking at churches about our mission. But maybe nothing is more important than getting new sponsors for our orphans who need help.
For the children, Milton Jones
